Welcome to Golden Vale Research

Our Story

Tradition

Our family has been farming near Clonmel, Co. Tipperary since 1908. During that time, five generations of our family have seen great changes in agriculture; the widespread adoption of mechanised agriculture, the Economic War of the 1930s, joining the EEC, the Foot and Mouth Crisis and many more. Each of these challenges were faced with the spirit of innovation and hard work which is the foundation of what we do.

The Next Step

Based on this spirit, Golden Vale Research was established in 2023. We aim to research areas of agriculture to meet tomorrow's challenges, today.

Golden Vale Research is an independent agricultural science research service. We are dedicated to providing the most up-to-date and reliable scientific research to help agricultural businesses and research groups thrive and to keeping farmers at the core of this development. Managing Director

Nicholas Ryan (B. Agr. Sc., PhD)

From a beef and tillage farm in Tipperary, I graduated from University College Dublin (UCD) in 2015 with a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Animal and Crop Production). Following this, I worked for Keelings as a softfruit buyer before starting a PhD in 2016 in conjuntion with UCD and Teagasc. The topic of my PhD project was to predict subsequent development of bovine uterine disease 14 days before clinical symptoms appear. This project was successful and I was awarded a PhD in 2020. Between 2020-2022, I was a postdoctoral researcher on the UCD Systems Herd project based at UCD Lyons Farm before establishing Golden Vale Research in 2023.
